The Pittsburgh Athletic Association was founded on Christmas Eve, 1908, by Pittsburgh’s most noted business and civic leaders. With incorporation papers filed, and 1500 original members, the club was granted a charter. Six months later, groundbreaking ceremonies were held for what was to become one of the city’s signature buildings—The PAA Clubhouse.

As the PAA begins its centennial birthday charter celebration, culminating with the 100th anniversary of the clubhouse in 2011, I am pleased to announce the creation of The Pittsburgh Athletic Association Century Fund

This endowment, which will administered by Club Officers subject to the approval of the Board of Directors, will be used for the financing of major clubhouse renovations to preserve and enhance the appearance and functionality of our beautiful building.

Significant contributors to the Century Fund will be recognized on new bronze plaques that will be displayed in the lobby, and in other areas of the clubhouse, with special recognition given to major contributors. Bronze plaques at the entrance to the Grill Room commemorate the names of members who contributed to a similar fund, called the Endowment Fund, in the 1980s. Unlike its predecessor, The Century Fund will be ongoing, affording present and future members the opportunity to participate.  A steering committee, called The Century Committee, comprised of members with expertise in this area, is being formed.

As our historic club begins a second century of excellence, I am asking all members to consider an investment in the future of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association by making a pledge to the Century Fund.
